Settlement Overview

- A proposed settlement has been preliminarily approved by the Court in a class action lawsuit against Hyundai Motor America (“Hyundai”) concerning certain 2016-2019 model year Hyundai Sonata Plug-In Hybrid vehicles (“Class Vehicles”). The lawsuit is called Kline et al. v. Hyundai Motor America, Case No. 23-CV-00245-GLS (D. Md.). If you are included in the Settlement, you have legal rights and options and deadlines by which you must exercise them.
- You are a Settlement Class Member if you owned or leased a Class Vehicle that, during the high-voltage battery (“HV Battery”) warranty period, required an HV Battery replacement and such battery replacement could not be completed within sixty (60) days. The relevant period for most Class Members, when their cars were out of service, is late 2021 through the summer of 2023.
- The Settlement offers several benefits as detailed below. Please review the answer to “What benefits does the Settlement provide?” in the Frequently Asked Questions closely. Settlement details, including the Class Action Settlement Agreement and Release (“Settlement Agreement”), can be found on the Important Documents page of this website.
- Please read this website carefully. Your legal rights are affected whether or not you act. Your rights and options and the deadlines to exercise them are explained in this website. The deadlines may be moved, canceled, or otherwise modified, so please visit this website regularly for updates and further details.
- The Court in charge of this case still has to decide whether to approve the Settlement. Payments will be made if the Court approves the Settlement and after any appeals are resolved. Please be patient.
